When the time comes for planning a move, well, you are in for quite a ride. There are many tasks that you will have to deal with, and it is probably not going to be easy. For starters, you will have to find a reliable moving company such as Canada movers to help you out with the move. You will also have to find a perfect moving date (or get as close to it as possible). You will also probably have to deal with a lot of finance and bureaucracy work. Each of these will require a significant amount of your brainpower. One of the key elements of a move is also the packing process. It is potentially the most sensitive element of the move, so it is important that it is done properly. That is why we prepared a list of key tips to prepare your wardrobe for relocation.

The first thing you need to do is to declutter

Over the years, you are guaranteed to have amassed probably a dragon’s hoard worth of things that you do not actually need. It is simply in human nature to want to save things and keep them just in case. Whether it is clothes, tons of notebooks and scripts, all sorts of (what can only be quite generously) described as memorabilia, there are many things in your possession that you do not really need anymore. This is true for the entirety of your belongings in general, and it is also true for your wardrobe. That is why, when you start planning a move, you should do some proper decluttering of your home. And this is one of the best ways to prepare your wardrobe for relocation. By doing this, you can save some money on packing supplies. There are a couple of ways to go about this – selling, donating/giving away, and throwing away.

You can lessen the moving costs by selling the superfluous things

One of the things that you can do as you declutter is to put aside those things that you do not need anymore, but that is actually worth something. You may have a suit or a dress that you have not been able to wear for a while now, or maybe your style has changed over the years. Or maybe, you just do not like that particular piece of clothing. No matter what it is, it is quite likely that you have something worth selling. By organizing a sale, or putting the items online, you can earn yourself some extra cash, while also saving space on the number of things that movers will be packing for you

You can donate or give away some of your things

The other thing that you can do with the superfluous clothes that you have is to give them away. Maybe a few of those dresses are perfectly suited for your sister or your best friend? Gift it to them. That suit looks perfect on your younger brother? Then maybe he should have it. If you are not sure about who may need the clothes that you are getting rid of, there is always an option of donating them to the Red Cross or a similar organization. You will be doing someone’s favor as well as making things easier for yourself. We see that as an absolute win.

There are three main ways to declutter – sell, give away or donate, and throw away

Throw the ruined stuff away

A lot of people save clothes that remind them of the good old times. It can be a t-shirt from college, or thorn shorts from high school, or even a really battered down pair of shoes. These are generally not really good for anything. They take up space, and there are far nicer (and more effective) pieces of clothes that you can wear instead. You can maybe save a shirt or two for some dirty work if you plan on renovating or something like that, but that is it. You should just throw away all the rest of the old, thorn clothes.

One of the key steps to prepare your wardrobe for relocation is to create an “essentials” list

One of the things many people forget about when packing for a move is to pack an “essentials” kit, bag, or a box. What this is, is a list of all the things that you will need during the relocation process. Once long distance movers Canada arrive to pack your belongings and take them to your new home, that may last anywhere from one day to several days or even a week, and in some cases a lot more. You are definitely going to need your overnight clothes, chargers for your phone and laptop.

You are also going to need some food, water and maybe some particular medicine just in case. Depending on how many days the moving process will last, you will need several outfits. That is why you will definitely need to make some form of this essentials package. Of course, if there is more than one person moving, each person will need this. The way you can go about this is to simply, a week or two earlier, make a list of what clothes you want to wear during those couple of days and then just set it aside when the time comes.

Pack the off-season clothes earlier

This is kind of the opposite of the essentials box, but you should definitely pack the off-season clothes as early as possible. This is a slam dunk because these clothes you do not need during the season of the move, so you do not have to think about it that much. Those winter coats are useless during the summer, so simply pack them as soon as you get the chance, and it will be much easier to prepare your wardrobe for relocation that way.
