1. Fragile Items:
For breakable or crushable items, liability is limited to $6 per pound per article.

2. High-Value or Restricted Items:
Items such as currency, jewelry, precious stones, valuable documents, or other articles exceeding $100 per pound in value must be declared in writing before the move. Undeclared high-value items are covered up to $6 per pound per article.

Sets or Matched Pieces
If one piece of a set is damaged, liability is limited to the repair or replacement of that piece only, not the entire set.

Post-Delivery Responsibility
The Mover is not liable for any damage or loss that occurs after delivery or once the shipment has been signed for by the customer or their representative.

Loading Without Shipper Present
If loading occurs at a location where the customer or their agent is absent, the loading is at the shipper’s risk.

Exclusions
The Mover will not be liable for loss or damage caused by:

  • Normal wear and tear, mould, mildew, insects, rust, or temperature changes
  • Natural disasters, war, strikes, or acts of God
  • Defective furniture construction (e.g., particleboard or pressboard)
  • Fragile or special items (e.g., artwork, marble, glass, chandeliers) unless professionally created by our team

Declared Value Limitation

If the shipment is released at a declared value not exceeding $6 per pound per article, the Mover’s liability remains limited to that amount. Any higher coverage is the customer’s responsibility.

Fragile and Mechanical Items

The Mover is not responsible for fragile items unless packed and unpacked by Professional Movers. We are also not liable for mechanical or electrical failures in items such as pianos, appliances, electronics, or instruments, whether packed by us or not.

Frequently Asked Questions for Moving Insurance

Declared value is the amount you set as your shipment’s total worth, while actual cash value factors in depreciation based on age and wear.

Coverage for fragile items may be limited if you pack them yourself. Movers can’t be responsible for damages to items not packed using professional materials or methods.

Insurance must be purchased before the move begins, as coverage cannot be added once loading has started.

Depreciation is subtracted based on an item’s age and condition, meaning you’ll receive the item’s current market value rather than its original cost.

No, most standard moving insurance excludes natural or weather-related damage such as freezing, moisture, or temperature changes.

Yes, but only if your mover’s insurance includes warehouse coverage, otherwise, you’ll need to request temporary storage protection in advance.

You can include all damaged items from the same move in one claim, as long as each item is clearly listed and documented.

A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before insurance applies. Some movers offer deductible-free plans for an added premium.

Keep purchase receipts, appraisals, or photos showing the item’s condition, these documents help verify its value during a claim.

Notify your mover immediately with details of the incident, photos, and contact information for the affected party so the insurer can assess the claim.

Report the damage to the moving company right away, provide a written statement, and allow inspection of the damaged equipment to start the claim process.
